A shared vision propels the journey.
It is acknowledged that schools which are well governed, managed, and led, will have clarity of purpose, and will utilize their data on student achievement to:
- underpin its processes of planning and self review and
- direct its resources towards desired goals of improving student achievement.
The key objective for Te Whakahaere Kura as a project is to strengthen and sustain governance and leadership in Tūhoe schools. Currently TEA is exploring alternative governance and leadership models based on the Tūhoe principles of: Whakapapa, Whanaungatanga and Wananga.
Nga Mahi
The Project Advisory Group consists of Board of Trustee members and Principals from the three clusters. They come with varying degrees of experience and knowledge around how schools are run.

Cluster 1:
Helen Te Waara - Principal,Waimana Primary
Cluster 2:
Piripi Blake - Principal, Te Wharekura o Ruatoki;
Mary Tarei - BOT,Te Mahoe Primary
Cluster 3:
Chris Eketone - BOT, Te Whaiti nui a Toi;
Merepeka Teka - Tūmuaki , Te Wharekura o Huiarau;
Neuton Lambert - BOT, Te Kura o Waikaremoana.
There are also two Ministry of Education representatives and three TEA representatives.
Te Wharekura o Rakaumangamanga Principal, Barna Heremia contributes as a ‘critical friend’ to the group. Barna (Ruatoki) has been a principal for many years. His wharekura currently implements an alternative governance model.
Tūhoe specific kaupapa was mentored by Te Hue Rangi. His loss will be sorely felt as his Tūhoe knowledge is the foundation for fuTūre governance and leadership work. The Advisory Group meets once a term and this is usually followed by the BOT & Principals Forum.
If you feel that you can and/or want to contribute to governance and leadership in Tūhoe schools, please contact project co-ordinator
Yvonne Hohipa at her email: bubby.tea@Tūhoe.com or alternatively contact the TEA office in TaneaTūa.
